Spencer Called His Shot On 4th Quarter Strip-Sack

The Cowboys’ victory over the Redskins was sealed Monday night when outside linebacker chased down Rex Grossman, forcing a strip-sack of the Washington quarterback. The ball was recovered by Sean Lee, and any hopes for a Redskins’ comeback went up in smoke.

In an interesting footnote, prior to the defense taking the field for that series, the Dallas Morning News reports today that Spencer called his shot, so to speak. According to the account in the DMN, Spencer told fellow outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware that he was going to force a fumble. He made good on the declaration, of course, but he failed to get one thing right: in his prediction, Spencer had Ware, and not Lee, recovering the ball.

"I said, 'Well cool, vice-versa, if I cause a fumble, I want you to pick it up,'" Ware said. "He made the fumble, but I didn't pick it up.

"But we won the game. When it counted, guys stepped up and got turnovers."
