Shaun Hill, the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback returned to practice today and declared that he was healthy enough to play in Saturday's preseason match-up with the Cowboys in Dallas.
Hill left San Francisco's workout on Wednesday after throwing one pass with what was described by head coach Mike Singletary as a sore back. Some worried over the injury, as Hill missed time in 2007 with a small fracture in his back, and his status for Saturday's game in the Big D was uncertain.
As the Maryland-product trotted off the field, though, he gave a thumbs-up, and told reporters that he would "definitely" play in Dallas.
The injury came only two days after San Francisco declared Hill the starter over former first rounder Alex Smith, who has recently been sidelined with a thumb injury.
In a vaguely frightening scenario for 'Niners fans, it appeared, if only for a moment this week, that quarterbacking duties in Dallas would be left up to veteran Damon Huard and rookie Ball State product Nate Davis.
Singletary maintained a predictable poker face during the short and ultimately harmless ordeal, saying in the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday, "It's not unsettling at all. Not one bit. We're going to Dallas and play football. We're not going to worry about who's not ready."
