Shanahan Believes The Cowboys Are Good… At Football

One would imagine a lot of folks in Washington DC will tell you that the Dallas Cowboys suck, regardless of record, or recent head-to-head-matchups or how many celebrities are currently romantically linked to members of the team, a tradition as old as the Cowboys themselves; but this group doesn’t include new Redskins’ Head Coach Mike Shanahan. Shanahan will make his Washington debut on Sunday night against a Dallas Cowboys team that is, in his estimation, pretty darn good.

"I think a lot of people look at them as Super Bowl contenders because you look at their defense last year," Shanahan said, per the Washington Post. "I think they were second in the league with points given up. That's pretty impressive. If you take a look at their red zone, I think they were first in drives. If you take a look at their rush defense, I think they were fourth.”

Point taken. The Cowboys’ defense is good at defending. But, Shanny, what of the offense?

"If you take a look at them offensively with 400 yards in a game, I believe they were second,” Shanahan continued. “If you look at yards per attempt, they were number one. They've got an excellent offense statistically, an excellent defense statistically and they've been playing good special teams.  When you have those types of combinations, people usually put you at the top of the list.”
