Sean Payton Says There Was “No Way” He Was Leaving New Orleans

It was rumored that Dallas was interested in Payton after his 2011 contract extension was voided by the league

When news surfaced that the NFL would void the contract extension given to New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton in 2011 as a result of the Bounty Scandal, the rumor mills in Dallas started working overtime, causing a great many Cowboys fan to wonder--considering his history in Dallas and the fact that he still lives in North Texas--if Jerry Jones wouldn’t make a play for Payton.

But according to Payton, who was reinstated by the NFL earlier this week, this talk was nothing more than just that. Because Payton says, throughout his year-long suspension, he never gave so much as a thought to leaving New Orleans.

"There was no way I was going to another team," Payton said, per ESPN Dallas. "The issue was a minor technicality. There was a minor clause, (the media) had it right, there was a minor clause in there that wasn't approved. What became more challenging really, was being out of the building and then trying to work through the specifics to get the contract done."
