Sean Lee Out, Cowboys Counting on Ernie Sims

Sims will take over Sean Lee's middle linebacker spot in Sunday's match-up with the Giants

In the absence of defensive captain Sean Lee, the Dallas Cowboys will count on veteran Ernie Sims at middle linebacker in the crucial NFC East match-up with the Giants on Sunday.

One thing, according to coaches, is guaranteed: Sims will bring the effort.

“He’s one of those guys, in a very good way, you’re always saying, ‘Ernie, it’s shells today.’ You know? ‘It’s not full pads. It’s not tackle,’” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “You’re always pulling him away from players. It’s just the way he plays. Some of the best players I’ve ever been around have had that same kind of mentality.”

Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher had a simple answer when asked what Sims brings to the Dallas lineup.

“One word: physical,” Hatcher said. “He is trying to hit everything that moves. I love Ernie to death. He’s going to blossom. I’m excited to see it. He’s ready for it. He’s been waiting on this opportunity and now it’s here. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the show because he’s going to ball out.”
