Romo: “I Won't Be Trying To Qualify For The Nelson”

Tony Romo has opted against trying to qualify for the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship

Tony Romo has caught a lot of heat, some would say pretty unwarrantedly, for his offseason exploits on the links, but this year--whether as a result of him having a new baby boy, of a newfound focus on football, or of some desire to stem the tide of criticism he takes for it--Romo has dialed back the golfing.

Last month, Romo said he would not try to qualify for the US Open. This month, he says he will not try to qualify for the Byron Nelson, despite the fact that the dates of the tourney, May 17-20, won’t likely interfere with any Dallas Cowboys business.

"I won't be trying to qualify for the Nelson,'' he said Thursday, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

The deadline to put down the entry fee for Byron hopefuls is Friday at 5 PM. It appears that the Cowboys’ quarterback will not be ponying up.
