Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant got really animated on the sideline late in the team’s 41-28 victory over the Bears in Chicago last Thursday, which, it being Dez, has been talked about much more than is really warranted over the past week.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, echoing what most everyone on the inside of that locker room has said in the past, Bryant is a great teammate.
“He’s not malicious,” Romo told 105.3-FM The Fan this week, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s not sitting there trying to show that it’s about him. There’s no big deceitful kind of motive behind it. He’s actually a big team guy. When he does it, he gets animated. It’s mostly just passion coming out. It doesn’t come across negative to the rest of the guys because you’re around him so much.
“It’s just comes across as he’s emotional and he’s excited and he’s ready to go. Sometimes it’s just happening, but it doesn’t really affect you. Other times it helps guys get going a little bit. It’s important. You want it to be important to guys. One of Dez’s great qualities is his ability to make it important to him, and that’s just rubbing off on other people. I don’t think anyone on our team construes that as something that’s a negative. I don’t think anyone look at it and says, ‘Oh gosh, I can’t believe this. This is ridiculous.’
“He’s a passionate, emotional player and he gets that way during games. If you listen to the NFL Films on it, you’ll understand real quick that he’s yelling, but he’s also saying, ‘We’re the best! Let’s go! Here we are! Me and you guys! Now and forever!’ It’s comical that it’s all negative and weird to other people.”
