Rolando McClain Robbed of Pick-Six

McClain was a whistle away from taking an interception back for a touchdown on Sunday

Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain had a big day against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but it could have been bigger.

In the fourth quarter, with the Titans mounting a comeback bid, McClain made an acrobatic interception on a ball tipped at the line by fellow first-year Cowboy Henry Melton. After the pick, he ran the ball back for what would have been a touchdown--but the referees had blown the play dead as an incomplete pass.

The crew reviewed the play and awarded McClain his interception, but since the play had been blown dead, he didn’t get his touchdown. Head coach Jason Garrett was visibly livid on the sideline, and for good reason. After the game he called the botched call “excruciating” but praised the work of the defense in snuffing out Tennessee’s momentum.

“When you make a play on the ball, it’s going to make a difference in the game,” Garrett said. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t officiated correctly. It should have been a touchdown, obviously. They blew the whistle too quickly. But I thought our defense responded well to get the ball there.”

Aside from the pick, McClain led the Cowboys with seven tackles and recorded a sack.
