Rolando McClain Making a Push at MLB?

McClain has once again been working with the starters this week

Rolando McClain appears to be making a late push for the middle linebacker job.

McClain had been dealing with a knee issue but, for the majority of practice on Monday, he worked with the starters with no issue at all. However, head coach Jason Garrett wasn’t ready to declare McClain the starter in the middle for this weekend’s season opener against the 49ers.

Coming in, it was a matter of learning what we were asking him to do,” Garrett told the team’s website. “He embraced that, and I think he’s going to be a part of that mix at linebacker. He’s demonstrated both in practice and in preseason games that he’s worthy of some kind of an opportunity.”

McClain abruptly retired last offseason and sat out of the entire 2013 season. He only came out of retirement in July when, scrambling to find a solution at Sean Lee’s old position, the Cowboys acquired the former first round pick in a trade with the Ravens.

“I don’t know, we’ll see,” McClain said of his role this week. “We’ll see what they have planned for me and the rest of the guys.”
