Rod Marinelli Confident in Cornerbacks

Marinelli says the team will use more press-man coverage in 2014

The Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks had a rough year in 2013, as the newly arrived Monte Kiffin had the group playing a whole lot of zone coverage. This year, newly promoted defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli says the group will use a lot more press-man coverage, and says he feels more than a little good about the position.

"We've just got to be smart with it, but I've got great, great confidence in our corners," Marinelli said, via ESPN Dallas. "Unbelievable confidence. Those guys are really good players. You have to play to your strength. I think that's our strength."

Secondary coach Jerome Henderson added: "Those guys were press guys coming out and they've shown over their careers that they're good press corners. I think when they get a chance to do that, they're pretty good at it."

Marinelli’s confidence aside, as of right now, the Cowboys are down a couple corners. Brandon Carr didn’t travel with the team to be with his mother, who passed away last week after a long battle with cancer, and Morris Claiborne has missed a few days in a row with tendinitis.
