Rob Ryan On Brodney Pool: “He Wasn't The Same Guy”

Veteran safety Brodney Pool was cut by the Cowboys on Monday

Safety Brodney Pool was cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, just over a week after failing the team’s pre-training camp conditioning test. According to Rob Ryan, who knows Pool from their days in Cleveland, the veteran just wasn’t the same player he remembered--though that didn’t make the decision any easier.

“He wasn’t the same guy, in my opinion that I was used to,” Ryan said, per the Dallas Morning News. “So, we were a little disappointed with that and we decided to move on as an organization.”

Head coach Jason Garrett didn’t elaborate much on the move, but he acknowledged that Pool’s relationship with Ryan and other staffers played a role in the deal that brought him to Dallas. But after seeing the veteran on the field, he said, the team decided he wasn’t the best fit.

“Brodney has been a guy who played for coaches on our staff,” Garrett said. “That’s why he was brought in because of their fondness for him. But ultimately we have to see how he plays, how he fits. We felt like it was the best decision for our team.”
