Right or Left, Smith Ready To Play

If there is a training camp in 2011, a question that becomes more and more legitimate as the NFL lockout enters its 64th day, one of the more interesting storylines coming from San Antonio will concern the team’s use of ninth overall pick, Tyron Smith.

Basically, will Smith be installed on the right side, his primary position at the University of Southern California, or the left side, where he’d be charged with the task of protecting Tony Romo’s blind side?

Both head coach Jason Garrett and offensive line coordinator Hudson Houck have said they’ll enter camp with an open-mind concerning the utilization of Smith. Considering, it’s not surprising that in a recent interview with ESPN Radio 103.3, Smith said that he hasn’t had any indication either way, but that in any case, he is ready to play.

“Actually, no, I don’t have a good feel for where I’m playing but I’m working out every day,” Smith said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Whatever position they want me to play, I’ll be ready for it.”
