Rex Ryan: Rob “Was Crying, Literally” After Hearing About Sean Lee

The Cowboys learned this week that Sean Lee would miss the rest of the season with a toe injury

The Dallas Cowboys got some upsetting news this week when they learned that inside linebacker and defensive co-captain Sean Lee had a toe injury that would require season-ending surgery, and not surprisingly, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was about as upset as anyone upon hearing about it.

In a press conference this week, Rob’s brother Rex Ryan, the head coach of the New York Jets, was asked about Jets’ linebacker Bart Scott, who is also dealing with a toe injury. In his response, Rex made mention of a conversation he had with his brother earlier in the week, in which the extent to which Rob was down about Lee’s season being over is clear.

Per the Dallas Morning News, Rex said: “My brother was crying, literally, on the phone because they just lost their great linebacker to a toe injury.”

As the Morning News’ Jon Machota points out, Rex has been known to speak with tongue planted firmly in cheek, so there’s a chance that he was using hyperbole here; but considering the situation, and what Lee means to the Cowboys’ defense, we’re kind of inclined to take the Jets’ head coach at his word here.
