Rex Grossman Believes The Redskins Will Win The NFC East

The NFL preseason has been known to stir the masses, to instill a sense of excited optimism in fans, players and coaches alike, based for the most part on the fact that no one has won, or lost, a game yet. In the standings, the 49ers are tied with the Jets who are tied with the Bengals who are tied with the Packers, etc.

This optimism manifests itself in many ways: the purchasing of jerseys, the heated arguing in sports bars and, most entertaining of all, the bold declarations on the part of players and coaches that seemingly have no shot at much of anything once the season begins. Remember when Roy Williams, as a member of the Lions, said that the team could go 16-0 a few years back?

We do, and it still makes us chuckle a little bit.

Anyway, in this spirit of optimism, we bring you Rex Grossman, quarterback of the Washington Redskins. Grossman thinks the Washington Redskins will win the NFC East this season, which makes exactly one person who thinks the Washington Redskins will win the NFC East this season.

“We’re just waiting in the wings ready to take over the NFC East.  Nobody’s talking about us, it’s right where we wanna be,” Grossman said, via ProFootballTalk. “You look at us from top to bottom out here, there’s a bunch of great players.   And we don’t need people saying we’re the best right now.  But when it’s all said and done, I really feel like this team’s gonna win the [NFC] East.”

Hey, maybe we’re wrong in thinking this expression of confidence is misguided to the point of being kind of funny--and if we are, good on the Redskins. But it’s kind of hard to think otherwise at this point, to believe that Rex Grossman can accomplish what six-time Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb couldn’t even come close to in his one, ill-fated year with the team.

Then again, if Grossman is wrong, we won’t hold it against him--chalk it up to the excitement of the preseason.
