Report: Texans “Leaning Towards” Manziel or Bortles

The Houston Texans own the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft

The 2014 NFL Draft is still about three months away, so the Houston Texans still have plenty of time to decide what to do with their No. 1 overall pick. But as of today, according to Russ Lande of Sports On Earth, they’re looking in the direction of quarterback, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and UCF’s Blake Bortles to be specific.

“According to trusted sources, the Texans are initially leaning towards taking either Blake Bortles or Johnny Manziel with the top pick,” Lande writes. “Although Manziel would obviously be the choice of owner Bob McNair, O'Brien is not sold that Manziel possesses the work ethic and intangibles necessary to be the face of a franchise.”

Once again, a lot can happen in three months. After all, the Combine hasn’t even happened yet.

But if the owner McNair and the new head coach, O’Brien, really do have a fundamental disagreement in their evaluations of this class of quarterbacks, it could be interesting to watch how they iron it out. Or rather, about as interesting as a speculative draft story can be in early February.
