Report: Melvin Gordon Won't Make it to the Cowboys at No. 27

The reigning Doak Walker Award winner reportedly won't make it past the Ravens at No. 26

A little over two weeks away from the opening night of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys are looking at this year’s class of running backs very closely. Of that group, we’d imagine Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon is close to, if not alone at the top of their list.

But according to a report, barring some draft day maneuvering, they’ll never get the chance to select the reigning Doak Walker Award winner.

SI’s Peter King wrote in his MMQB column today that, “Melvin Gordon will not get past Baltimore at No. 26.” The Cowboys, of course, have the No. 27 pick.

Obviously, we don’t know where the Cowboys have Gordon on their big board--again, we’d imagine pretty high--but this class of running backs is among the deepest in recent memory, and the team has hosted the best of the best of that group for pre-draft visits at Valley Ranch. Which is to say, as promising as Gordon looks, they should have plenty of options when they go on the clock late in the first round on April 30.
