Dallas Will Figure Out a Way to Get Manziel: Report

The rumors regarding the Cowboys' interest in Johnny Manziel are getting juicier

The rumors regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ interest in Johnny Manziel is heating up as we draw closer to the 2014 NFL Draft next month.

For most of the offseason thus far, it’s been assumed that the Cowboys would target a defensive player--in all likelihood, either a defensive lineman or a safety--with their No. 16 overall pick. But last week, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that Jerry Jones and co. were legitimately interested in the 2012 Heisman winner and that they’d grab him if he happened to slip.

Now, CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz says he’s been hearing these rumors for some time now.

“I can say this, he’s going to be the guy everyone wants to see. I’ve heard this rumor for a month--the Cowboys will figure out a way to get Manziel,” Nantz told ESPNCleveland. “Wherever Manziel goes, there is going to be more clamoring about Johnny Manziel than there would be about Blake Bortles going No. 1 or (Jadeveon) Clowney going No. 1, or anyone else. This is a guy that there’s just a tremendous interest in everything he does.”

This will be especially true if Manziel--a hero to many in the Lone Star State--goes to Dallas, where just last year they gave Tony Romo the largest deal in the history of the franchise.
