Report: Cowboys Ready to “Move on” From Austin

Miles Austin caught just 24 passes for 244 yards and no touchdowns in 2013

According to ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer, the Dallas Cowboys are ready to “move on” from oft-injured wide receiver Miles Austin.

Austin is a two-time Pro Bowler, but he has struggled mightily in two of the past three seasons as he’s dealt with a long string of nagging hamstring injuries. Last season was his worst as a Cowboy, as he missed five games with the hamstring, and caught just 24 passes for 244 yards and no touchdowns.

Likely a post-June 1 cut, Austin would be due $5.5 million in 2014.

“ ... I’ve long defended him and felt he was a good fit after what he did in 2012,” Archer writes. “But he just couldn’t get over those injuries. It’s a shame. Perhaps there’s a chance he comes back at a lower rate, but I can see the Cowboys drafting a receiver or going after a low-paid veteran in free agency on a short-term deal.”
