On The Bright Side: Jason Witten Looks Like Jason Witten Again

Witten caught 13 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Monday night loss to Chicago

It’s admittedly hard to say anything nice about the Dallas Cowboys, following a 34-18 Monday night dismantling at the hands of the Chicago Bears, but for the sake of optimism, we’ll point out that--amidst all that ugliness--Jason Witten looks like Jason Witten again.

Coming off a lacerated spleen suffered in the first preseason game, Witten was uncharacteristically unreliable through the team’s first games, dropping five on-target passes--which is more drops than he had in all of 2011. On Monday night, Witten caught 13 passes on 13 targets, for 112 yards and touchdown (the touchdown came in garbage time, but all the same).

Hey, look I never doubted myself,” Witten said, per ESPN Dallas. “A lot of those were tough catches that I expect and we expect me to make. I don’t blink at those. I know what I’m capable of. I know how I feel and play. I was able to get some drives going, but it should be the other way around. It shouldn’t be a surprise. It should be a surprise the way it was (with the drops). You’ve got to stay confident and play better and better.”
