Newly Paid Scandrick Will Remain In The Slot

Orlando Scandrick is a lot wealthier than he was a week ago, but a starting role on defense continues to elude him--for now, anyway.

A week ago, Scandrick was rewarded for an impressive training camp with a five-year, $26 million contract extension. Meanwhile, both starting cornerbacks, Terence Newman and Mike Jenkins, have missed the entire preseason and most of training camp with injuries (Newmanโ€™s dealing with a hamstring injury, Jenkins with a stinger).

So Scandrick had a golden opportunity this preseason, and really, heโ€™s done all he could to take advantage of it.

According to head coach Jason Garrett though, unless Jenkins and/or Newman is unable to return in time, Scandrick will not start in the regular season opener against the Jets.

โ€œWe like the starting corners we have,โ€ Garrett said, per the San Antonio Express-News. โ€œWe like Orlando's role.โ€
