New D Line Coach Baker is “Really Emotional”

In their latest hiring, of former Carolina Panthers defensive line coach Brian Baker, the Dallas Cowboys kept with the theme of effusive defensive coaches. The pattern--from coordinator Rob Ryan, to linebackers coach Matt Eberflus and now Baker--marks a significant change in the culture around Valley Ranch, a departure from the laid back style preferred by Wade Phillips.

As the new defensive line coach, Baker might be the most animated of them all. The Dallas Morning News recently compiled some quotes from Baker’s former employers and players, and the consensus is that emotionality is the coach’s modus operandi.

"He's really emotional," former Viking Talance Sawyer said of Baker in the St. Paul Pioneer Press in August 2001, via the DMN. "He gets into the game, and he really gets into practice, so we kind of get that effect from him, so it causes us to want to work harder, too."
