NJ Gov. Admits He's a Cowboys Fan

Chris Christie doesn't count himself a fan of the Jets or the Giants

Chris Christie is the Governor of New Jersey. The New York Giants, of course, play in New Jersey. Which, considering the man makes his living off winning the approval of his constituents, makes what he told a group of local elementary school kids this week a pretty bold move.

During a Q&A session, Christie was asked by one of the kids in attendance to identify his favorite baseball, basketball and football teams. He answered the New York Mets, the New York Knicks and, to the dismay of the crowd, the Dallas Cowboys, a hated rival of the team that plays in the governor’s backyard.

“The last answer is one of the things that gets all of my political advisers nervous, so get ready for a nervous moment,” Christie told the crowd. “They’re going to get nervous now, because my favorite football team is not the New York Giants. It’s not the New York Jets. And it’s not the Philadelphia Eagles. Get ready, now. My favorite football team [is] the Dallas Cowboys. ...”

At that, the young crowd let loose a chorus of boos.

“Which, by the way is not the smartest thing for the governor of New Jersey to want to be, a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, but I was a big fan when I was your age,” he continued. “I was a big fan of Roger Staubach, who was the quarterback for the Cowboys back then, and the Giants and the Jets pretty much stunk when I was a kid.”
