The No Fun League is at it again.
For the second year in a row, the NFL is addressing the use of custom facemasks and, this time round, they’re getting even more strict.
Arguing that the larger facemasks could encourage players to lead with their heads, and that the added weight of the facemasks could affect the structural integrity of helmets, the league has put the kibosh on “non-standard” facemasks. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport passed the news along via Twitter on Monday.
This means NFL players will no longer be allowed to look like "Mortal Kombat" characters when they take the field on Sundays, which is too bad. It was a cool look while it lasted.
We’d be surprised if there isn’t some kind of backlash, vocally anyway, from players who seem to love these custom facemasks. That said, we’d be more surprised if Roger Goodell and co. care what the players think about the rule.
