NFC East Watch: RB Brandon Jacobs Wants to Return to New York

Jacobs spent seven seasons with the Giants before leaving for a season in San Francisco a year ago

After the release of veteran Ahmad Bradshaw, the New York Giants are down to just two running backs--David Wilson and Andre Brown--and this has some wondering if former Giant Brandon Jacobs isn’t destined to reunite with his old mates this season.

Jacobs is coming off what he, himself, describes as the worst year of his career--not that he’ll get any argument about that. He signed a deal with the eventual NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers last offseason, but there wasn’t much of a honeymoon period between the two parties.

Jacobs missed the first two months of 2012 with a knee injury and saw sparse playing time after he finally did return. The lack of playing time led to Jacobs airing his grivances via social media and the 49ers responded by suspending him for the final three games of the season. All told, he appeared in two games for San Francisco.

For obvious reasons, Jacobs would love to come back to New York. He recently posted a picture of himself in his old Giants’ garb to Instagram along with the caption, “Trying to get back in this uniform.”

Somewhat more surprising is that, according to a report in the New York Post, the Giants haven’t ruled Jacobs out as a third option at running back. 2013 will be Jacobs’ ninth year in the league.
