All offseason, the New York Giants have made it clear that they’re not terribly worried about Eli Manning’s future with the team. Manning is set to enter the final year of his current contract, and both he and the team have seemed content to let that year play out, and then work on a new deal.
But now, it looks like the two-time Super Bowl winner Manning could be locked up by the Giants a lot sooner.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported this week that the Giants are looking to get Manning his new contract in the coming weeks.
“This is another one where the Giants hope to do a deal either before training camp or early on in training camp,” Rapoport said, via ProFootballTalk. “My understanding is the Giants brass is confident in doing a deal in due time. Actually, just talking to people on both sides of this, it seems to make sense for both sides to do a deal, one that they think and hope will get done this year.”
