McNabb's Agent Blasts Redskins Over Benching

The wild sideshow that is the Washington Redskins season continues...

Ten days ago, the team suspended defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who has been trouble for Washington since around 45 minutes after they signed him, seemingly, for the remainder of the season for conduct detrimental to the team. Today, after a week or so of speculation, reports surfaced that Donovan McNabb, another of the pillars in the supposed “rebuilding” of the ‘Skins, would be benched for Rex Grossman.

Yes, that Rex Grossman.

Of course, as football matters in Washington go, the story doesn’t end there, but instead gets weirder, uglier, and all the more delightful for a Dallas Cowboys fan looking for any remedy he or she can get for the misery that the 2010 season has brought.

Enter Fletcher N. Smith, McNabb’s agent.

Smith blasted the team Friday after learning of the Redskins’ plan to give McNabb a seat against Dallas on Sunday.

"Disrespectful is probably not strong enough of a word," Smith said in the Washington Post. "Donovan has handled himself with nothing but class, not just in Washington but as an ambassador for the league. To treat him this way ... it's beyond disrespectful.

"I almost don't even know where to begin, but it really started with Detroit and it was just wrong the way Donovan was treated. Just the way Mike handled the whole situation in Detroit, and in almost every instance since that time, and this is, I guess, the culmination of that. I think it's ... again, it's beyond disrespectful."
