Mayock Believes Jerry Would Take Manziel at 16

The Johnny Manziel-to-Dallas rumors just won't die

The Johnny Manziel-to-Dallas rumors just won’t die.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock penned a doozy of a Mock Draft this week, his only of the year, and he has the Dallas Cowboys taking Manziel at No. 16. Oh, Mayock is well aware of Jerry Jones’s comments this week--telling reporters Tuesday that Dallas isn’t looking at quarterbacks in the early rounds, that they’re happy with Tony Romo, etc.--but he believes Jones is too enamored of Manziel NOT to take him if he’s there.

“If Johnny Manziel happened to get to 16, it’s party time in Dallas,” Mayock said Tuesday, per the Dallas Morning News. “If Manziel is on the board, I really believe it’s going to be one of those things when the owner takes over and says, ‘That’s our guy.’

"I don’t think Jerry could help himself. It’s that simple.”

Mayock reasons that Dallas might want to find Romo's successor now because he doesn't think the team is close to being a true contender--or at least, not as close as some others, like Jerry for instance, seem to think.

"I think they’re further away than people think to winning a championship," he said. “If Johnny Manziel was sitting there at 16, I’m not saying that I would take him, but I’m telling you that I think it’s a legitimate conversation, and I think at the end of the day, Jerry Jones would pull the trigger."
