Marinelli, Cowboys Looking to Slow McCoy & Co.

The Eagles rushed for 256 yards in their 33-10 victory over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day

In the Thanksgiving Day matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles, LeSean McCoy ran roughshod over the Dallas defense to the tune of 159 yards on 25 carries. The team finished with 256 yards on 45 carries on their way to a 33-10 victory.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli knows his group will have to find a way to slow McCoy and co. if they want to reverse their fortunes in the rematch this week.

At the end of the day, they’re a very physical run team,” Marinelli told the team’s website. “Their offensive line is extremely physical, well-coached, tough--and they’ve got a back who knows how to run it.”

According to safety and defensive captain Barry Church, the key to containing McCoy is, simply enough, discipline.

“With McCoy, he’s like a punt returner back there--if you have a gap open, you’ve just got to stay in yours,” Church said. “If you try to bounce and try to make the play, he’s just going to cut up right where you had left. You’ve got to stay disciplined and make sure you have the edge on this guy.”
