Magee Gets $70,000

Dallas had ASU linebacker Brandon Magee as a fourth round pick

A lot of feathers were ruffled last week when the Dallas Cowboys reportedly gave undrafted free agent Brandon Magee, a linebacker out of Arizona State, a $70,000 signing bonus. But this wasn’t actually the case.

Magee actually got a $5,000 bonus on a deal that could be worth, total, $70,000--though this figure is guaranteed for his first year with Dallas.

The Cowboys are pretty obviously high on Magee. According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, they had him rated as a fourth rounder in the draft two weeks ago, but quickly saw that they could pick him up afterward.

Blake Baratz, Magee’s agent, said the Cowboys were among the first teams to use to first-year guarantee, a new tool available to teams as part of the new collective bargaining agreement.
