Lockhart, Facing Fraud Trail, Taken Into Custody

Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Eugene Lockhart was back in federal custody after authorities say he violated terms of release while he waits for his mortgage fraud trial to begin.

Authorities told The Dallas Morning News on Friday that Lockhart allegedly failed a drug test. He has been free on bond since September, when he was arrested for his alleged role in what officials say was a mortgage scheme that swindled more than $20 million from several home lenders.

The indictment charges Lockhart with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud and one count of wire fraud. His attorney did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press.

The 49-year-old played for the Cowboys from 1984 through 1990 and for New England in 1991-92.
