Lee on Ryan's “All-Hype” Comments: “I Love It”

It’s no secret that players love to play for the Ryan brothers. Rex Ryan, the head coach of the New York Jets, and Rob Ryan, the Dallas Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator, bring a sort of bravado to the locker room that fires players up--and instills an “us against the world” mentality.

Cowboys fans got their first taste of this bravado this week, when Ryan the defensive coordinator delivered a thinly veiled shot at the Philadelphia Eagles, who he suggested, after a week of big-name free agent signings, were the league’s “all-hype team.” Unsurprisingly, the team’s defensive players liked the ring of Ryan’s statement, his assertion that they would beat the unnamed but obvious team’s [butt] when they met in the regular season.

“I love it. I love it. I love his comment,” said linebacker Sean Lee, on ESPN 103.3's Galloway & Company on Tuesday. “Go ahead and say it, because guess what? That just makes us motivated to go out and prove it.”

Lee, a second-year linebacker out of Penn State, believes that Ryan’s presence will bring a new sense of confidence to the defensive side of the football.

“He’s our leader and he’s out there saying what he says and I love it,” Lee said. “The big thing of our defense is that [people] might have thought we quit, but I think it was about our confidence. Guys had just played so well for so many years and were certainly not playing well and [lost] that confidence.

“He brings that confidence, no matter what. No matter what’s going on, he’s going to bring that confidence. That’s what he had lost, and I think that’s what we’re really feeding off right now.”
