Ronald Leary seems to be firmly ahead of Mackenzy Bernadeau in the battle for the starting left guard job, as evidenced by his playing all snaps with the starting offensive line against the Ravens on Saturday, but head coach Jason Garrett says the competition is still being sorted out.
"Ultimately we're going to look at the tape and say, 'This guy is better than that guy,'" Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. "The best guy deserves the first shot."
Leary is the incumbent on the left side, but he was slowed somewhat when he began training camp on the PUP list with a strained hamstring. When he returned from that injury, though, he was almost immediately plugged in with the 1s.
"He's getting better and better," Garrett said. "He's a little bit behind because he wasn't involved in the early part of training camp, but he's a good, strong player. His experience from last year has helped him and he's become more and more decisive as a player. He needs to continue to get his feet up underneath him and catch up on his reps a little bit and we'll give him plenty of chances to do that."
