Lawrence Misses First Practice to be with Newborn Son

Second round pick Demarcus Lawrence will make his debut with the Cowboys on Saturday

Suffice to say, Cowboys rookie defensive end Demarcus Lawrence has had a big week.

A week ago today, the Cowboys sent their second and third round picks to the Redskins to move up and select the Boise State product with the second pick of the second round, 34th overall. Today, he is missing the first day of the team’s rookie mini-camp to be with his son Damari, who was born Thursday in Boise.

It’s just blessings on top of blessings,” Lawrence told the team’s official website, “and the only thing I can do is sit back and thank God, because none of this would have been possible without him.”

It will be a short trip for Lawrence, as he will turn around and make his practice debut at Valley Ranch on Saturday.

“I’ll be back first thing Saturday morning, ready to work--I just want to make sure everything is okay,” Lawrence said.
