Kitna Absent From Practice

If he’s healthy, interim head coach Jason Garrett said that Jon Kitna would start Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.

But as far as we can tell, Kitna isn’t healthy, and won’t likely be healthy in time for Sunday.

The veteran quarterback missed practice on Wednesday as he continues to recover from the strained oblique that kept him out for the entirety of the second half of last Saturday’s Christmas evening loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Stephen McGee, who replaced Kitna on Saturday (and almost played the hero), will receive all the first team reps in practice, in Kitna’s absence.

While we at Blue Star love and respect the elder statesman Kitna, it would be good to see McGee get his first start in the NFL. It’s not as though the Cowboys have anything to lose, after all, and the team has to find out what they have in McGee at some point--so why not now?

It’s not as though Kitna needs the experience.

In other injury news, receivers Sam Hurd and Jesse Holley each missed practice Wednesday, as did Bradie James.
