Kiper Still Has Dallas Selecting Alabama S Mark Barron In First Round

ESPN's Mel Kiper has long thought Dallas would be a good destination for Barron

While one ESPN draft expert, Todd McShay, believes the Dallas Cowboys’ free agent haul might allow them to go for a pass rusher in the first round of this month’s NFL Draft, another, Mel Kiper, still believes that Dallas will continue in their attempts to shore up the secondary with the 14th overall pick.

In his fourth mock draft of the season, released Wednesday, Kiper has Dallas selecting Alabama safety Mark Barron with their first pick.

“Dallas was aggressive in getting a solid corner in free agency with the addition of Brandon Carr, but they still need help at safety to shore up the pass defense,” Kiper said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I don't think another corner is out of the question at this spot, but Barron is the best safety in the draft, and the Cowboys can't go wrong if he's available. I can also see Dallas going offensive line here, as that unit could use some help, but Barron makes sense.”

Indeed, experts like Kiper still believe the interior of the offensive line could be a targeted area for the Cowboys in the draft, despite the additions of Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings in free agency; in the second round of his mock draft, Kiper has Dallas taking Kevin Zeitler, a guard out of Wisconsin.
