Kiffin: Spencer Will Be Limited in Week 1

Anthony Spencer had arthroscopic knee surgery in late July

Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin expects defensive end Anthony Spencer to return for the season opener, but he’s not going to jump back in and play every down against the Giants.

Spencer underwent arthroscopic knee surgery back in July 25.

“Even if Anthony is ready, he sure won’t be ready to play 60 something plays, that’s for darn sure,” Kiffin said, per ESPN Dallas. “Certainly he’ll be back for some.”

Spencer is coming off perhaps his best season thus far, with 95 tackles, 11 sacks and two forced fumbles. On Wednesday, he was named the Cowboys Defensive MVP for the 2012 season.
