Kiffin: Don't Blame Romo, Blame Me

Monte Kiffin's defense allowed 51 points and 517 yards in the loss to the Broncos

Add Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin to the list of folks at Valley Ranch who have jumped to Tony Romo’s defense in the wake of last week’s 51-48 loss to the Broncos.

Predictably, Romo has caught a lot of heat for tossing the fourth quarter interception that set the Broncos up for the game-winning field goal on Sunday. But Kiffin doesn’t want to hear all that. Rather than blaming Romo, Kiffin said Wednesday, folks should be placing the blame on his shoulders.

“People will say, ‘Tony Romo throws the interception and we can’t win the big one,’” Kiffin said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He went toe-to-toe with one of the best ever in the game of football and will be in the Hall of Fame. But don’t put that on him. You put that one on me.

This isn’t to say Kiffin is hitting the panic button on his defense, though.

“Oh, we’ll be OK,” he said. “We just hit a couple of good teams and we didn’t play very well.”
