Jerry Jones: Jenkins “Is a Vital Part of Our Plan”

Jones said recently that the team has no intention of getting rid of CB Mike Jenkins

The selection of LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne paired with the free agent signing of former Chiefs cornerback Brandon Carr threw Mike Jenkins’ future with the team into serious doubt, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones maintains that he is not looking to unload Jenkins, and that in fact, he will play an important role going forward.

It was reported in the days following the draft that the team was shopping Jenkins, but, whether there was any validity to the rumors, no deal was done. Now, Jones is loudly denying that the team wants to be rid of Jenkins, who is entering the final year of his contract and coming off of shoulder surgery.

"What I'm saying is, he's a vital part of our plan," Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. "I...am assuring Mike that he has a very critical role in what we want to be defensively...Jenkins is not only this year but a long term player here as far as I'm concerned."
