The Dallas Cowboys learned Monday that Morris Claiborne would miss the rest of the season with a torn patellar tendon, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones remains optimistic about the former sixth overall pick’s future with the team.
“The thing is that I see his future, and I see a good one here with the Cowboys,” Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan on Tuesday, via ESPN Dallas.
Claiborne was injured in the first quarter of Sunday night’s victory over the Saints, while pursuing a scrambling Drew Brees. This followed a week in which Claiborne was demoted by the team and responded by storming out of team headquarters at Valley Ranch.
Jones said Tuesday that several NFL coaches and general managers contacted him last week and told him not to get too down on Claiborne.
“‘He is an outstanding player,’” Jones says he was told. “‘He has outstanding skills. He is in the top elite group, but he’s got to get his confidence and he’s got to continue to see the relationship between work and repetition.’”
