Jason Garrett Not Thinking About Sean Payton Rumors

Sean Payton's lack of a new contract has some thinking he could be a candidate for the Dallas job, should it become vacant

It’s mid-December and the Dallas Cowboys are tied for first place in the NFC East, so it’s understandable that the rumors of a new head coach in Dallas--which were rampant as recently as last month, with names such as Mike Holmgren, Andy Reid and Sean Payton floating around--have died down a bit.

But Payton is still without a contract, after the NFL voided his 2011 extension earlier this season--so the rumors surrounding him are still quite alive. But the current head coach, Jason Garrett isn’t concerning himself with such matters at this point.

"I don’t think so much about that kind of stuff," Garrett said this week, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "What I try to do is the same thing I try to emphasize to our players--focus on this day, the task at hand and do your job the best you can do it."

Garrett’s been doing a pretty good job of it lately, having led Dallas to victory in five of their last six games. If he keeps it up, we’d imagine that these rumors will go away for good.
