Irvin Blasts Free: “Jimmy Johnson Would Cut Him On The Spot”

It's safe to say Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is no huge fan of right tackle Doug Free

There are a couple things we can take away from Michael Irvin’s assessment of the Dallas Cowboys following the 23-20 overtime victory over the Browns on Sunday, which Irvin delivered via his gig at NFL Network: A) he remains pretty optimistic about the Cowboys’ chances this year, and B) he is no great fan of Doug Free.

Of course, Free’s no-good, very-bad 2012 season hit a new low on Sunday. Though the most penalized player in the league remained penalty-free, he was repeatedly beat off the line, accounting for three of the seven sacks of Tony Romo on the day--a new career high for the Dallas signal caller.

“The Cowboys have a chance to do something here. If I’m running the Cowboys organization, I’m doing something about Doug Free,” Irvin said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I’m doing something about some of the stuff I saw today on that football team. Yeah it was Cleveland, yeah, you won the game, but wow. (Romo) didn't ’t even have time to get back and set up before he was getting hit."

“Oh my God, Doug Free, man. I’m talking about, Jimmy Johnson would cut him on the spot.”

Ouch. But Irvin wasn’t done. He went onto deliver a message directly to Free, staring into camera and adding: “Doug Free, you got to tighten up or you need to be free. I’m telling you right now. Tighten down or get out! That’s what you do.”

Again... Ouch.
