Hatcher Not Backing Away From “Leadership” Comments

Back in February, Cowboys' DE Jason Hatcher said he wasn't sure who the leaders on the team were

In an appearance on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM in Dallas back in February, Cowboys’ defensive end Jason Hatcher was asked who the leaders of the team were. His response to this seemingly simple question likely came as a bit of a shock for Cowboys fans.

"Uh, dude, I got to be honest with you. That's a good question. That's a good question,” Hatcher said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I really don't know, man.”

Three months later, Hatcher isn’t backing away from his comments, but says he likes what he’s seen out of the team since he made them.

"I don't regret nothing I said," he said. "Whatever I say, I say what's on my heart. Whether you take it or leave it, I don't care how you take it. But at the same time I wasn't dogging nobody, I wasn't dogging the leaders we have. I just felt like guys can do better. Guys have stepped up. I like the way this team is going."

Hatcher seems unsure if his remarks served to motivate his teammates, but whatever the motivation, he said he’s seen a positive change in the way the team is working this offseason.

"Guys haven't come to me," Hatcher said. "They don't have to come me and say nothing about it. I didn't say it for a response from the players. I said it for a response on the field - working hard, how you carry yourself. They don't have to say nothing to me. And I definitely see. I don't know if what I said woke guys up or not. I don't care. But like I said, I said what was on my heart."
