Greisen: “I Better Know Our Offense”

It’s been a whirlwind of a week for the Dallas Cowboys’ newest quarterback Chris Greisen.

Greisen was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad this week--by signing him to the practice squad, the team avoided a $50,000 UFL transfer fee--and quickly charged with the task of absorbing the team’s offensive playbook. This is because, with the injury of backup quarterback Jon Kitna, the team started the week with just one healthy quarterback in Stephen McGee.

Now, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that Jon Kitna will be sidelined with an oblique injury, meaning that Greisen will be called up to backup Stephen McGee, who will get his first career start.

"First and foremost, I better know our offense,'' Greisen said, per the Dallas Morning News.

According to Greisen’s estimate, he knows about 100 of the 150 plays in the Cowboys’ playbook.

"It's getting better every day,'' Greisen said. "If I got on the grease board and they said a play, I could draw it up now. No problem. But it's just a matter of the instant recognition in mind, to have that picture in mind, to be able to relay it to the guys.''
