Garrett Wants to See Better Tackling

The Cowboys struggled to finish tackles in the loss to the Redskins

Following Monday night’s loss to the Washington Redskins, safety and defensive captain Barry Church told reporters that he thought it had been the worst game of his four and a half year career. The reason was a pair of missed tackles, a problem that was in no way limited to Church that night.

Other usually consistent tacklers like Rolando McClain whiffed on four tackles, according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN Dallas.

Not surprisingly, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett took notice of the sloppy performance and knows well the team need to rectify the problem going forward.

The biggest thing that jumped out to me from the tape was the tackling,” Garrett said of the Washington game. “Unfortunately for us, a few of those plays were probably tackles for loss. We have them trapped in the backfield, they wriggled free and they make a 10-, a 12- or an 18-yard run and those plays hurt you. Some of our best tacklers didn’t tackle well.”
