Garrett Absent From Cam Newton Workout

On Tuesday, five NFL head coaches attended Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton’s workout at Auburn University, but the Dallas CowboysJason Garrett was not among them.

According to the Dallas Morning News’ Gerry Fraley, the Panthers’ Ron Rivera, Broncos’ John Fox, Browns’ Pat Shurmur, Cardinals’ Ken Whisenhunt and Bengals’ Marvin Lewis attended the workout, all representing teams with higher draft picks than do the Cowboys.

The team did have representatives present, but Garrett's absence may be an indicator that Dallas is either not all that interested in Newton, as they are looking to address needs more pressing than the quarterback position--where, currently, there’s not really a need--or they could just be convinced that Newton will not slip to the Cowboys’ ninth overall pick.

There has been some talk of the team trading up, but this has been centered not on Newton, but LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Which is to say, if Newton is a Cowboy come April, we’ll be more than a little surprised.
