Garrett & Co. Visit SMU Basketball Practice

Under Larry Brown, the SMU men's basketball team reached the Top 25 this year for the first time in almost three decades

Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff visited a SMU men’s basketball practice on Tuesday to meet with and hopefully glean some knowledge from head coach Larry Brown.

Brown, a Basketball Hall of Famer who remains the only coach to have won both an NCAA Championship (with the Kansas JayHawks in 1988) and an NBA Championship (with the Detroit Pistons in 2004), has led the Mustangs to a Top-25 ranking for the first time in almost 30 years.

For Garrett and co., this was no social visit. According to Joe Trahan of WFAA.com, the coaches spent much of the Ponies’ practice taking extensive notes.

"He was out here for a couple hours and we watched him," Garrett said of Brown. "And that was our comment--he's working the whole time coaching every minute, coaching all the players, all parts of the game."

Garrett visited Brown last year as well, and in year’s past he’s met with another legendary basketball coach, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.

"You can just tell there's such a good culture they're developing here, and it starts with [Brown] and his staff," Garrett said. "It's fun for us to be here watching these guys play and develop and grow and really develop into a really good basketball team."
