G Tim Lelito Passes on Offer from Cowboys

Lelito will likely stay with the Saints after passing on the Cowboys' offer

The Dallas Cowboys apparently had designs on bringing in restricted free agent guard Tim Lelito for interior line depth, but Lelito has passed and will likely remain with the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints gave Lelito the original-round tender worth $1.67 million just before free agency opened, meaning they could match any offer he received. The Cowboys were the only team to extend an offer, but Lelito ultimately decided to pass because he’d be a reserve in Dallas.

In New Orleans, he started 13 games last season and seems in good position to start again in 2016.

You have to weigh your options and it’s a gamble,” Lelito told WWL TV in New Orleans. “So you can go somewhere else and be a backup for a couple years with less money or you can try to go into a one-year tender and do the best you can and hopefully come out with a little better contract after it.”
