Free, Parnell Share Starting Reps

Doug Free and Jermey Parnell are splitting first team reps at right tackle just as they did near the end of 2012

On the first day of OTAs on Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys picked up right where they left off in 2012 as far as the right tackle position is concerned. The platoon of Jermey Parnell and Doug Free, which was used down the stretch a season ago, was seen being used to split first team reps.

Offensive line coach Bill Callahan has said that he was encouraged by the work done by the two in 2012, and he’s not alone in thinking that, meaning that we’re not all that surprised that the team was so quick to bring out the rotation.

For his part, Free is on the field for the first time since taking a drastic pay cut in order to stay with the team. The re-working of Free’s deal actually cut the amount he was scheduled to make over the next two years in half--from $14 million to $7 million, combined.

"[Free] knows that I love him and I want him here and I care about him," Callahan said, per ESPN Dallas. "There is no after effect that needs to be said because we we're working here all along. I think there will be really good competition between both tackles."
