Former Rob Ryan Disciple Shaun Rogers Released by Cleveland

Nose tackle Shaun Rogers was among four defensive players--along with Eric Barton, David Bowens and Kenyon Coleman--to be released on Wednesday by the Cleveland Browns.

The cuts have caused many to wonder whether new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who spent that past two seasons as Cleveland’s DC, will pursue some of his former players--Rogers in particular.

Rogers is a tremendously talented, tremendously sized nose tackle, but has questionable health and, according to some, work ethic. On top of that, he’s 31-years-old.

But Ryan, at some point in 2009 at least, was enamored of the University of Texas product’s talent to a degree that gives us good reason to wonder whether he'll soon land with his old coordinator in Dallas.

"He is a tremendous physical specimen," Ryan said, per ESPN Dallas. “He is so athletic for a big man. I've been around the best in football. I've been around Warren Sapp in college. I coached Jamal Williams and Kevin Williams, a couple of decent All-Pro defensive tackles. . . . Shaun Rogers is tremendous. Absolutely tremendous. Any system that he plays in, he is going to be dominant."
