Escobar “Expecting to be on the Field”

Second round pick Gavin Escobar is hoping to see some substantial playing time right off the bat

Cowboys second round pick Gavin Escobar will be joining a loaded stable of tight ends in 2013--a stable that includes eight time Pro Bowl selection Jason Witten and league sophomore James Hanna--but Escobar believes he’ll earn some playing time as well, somewhere in there.

“I’m expecting to be on the field,” Escobar said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I’m competing to get on the field. That’s what I’m hoping for.”

By his own admission, Escobar has a lot to learn as he makes the jump from the college ranks to the NFL, but he’s taken to learning as much as he can from whoever he can--not the least from the aforementioned Witten. That said, Escobar has tried not to hound the veteran.

“I ask him stuff here and there on the field but I’m not bugging him,” he said. “He’s still working hard out there. He’s still doing his thing, so I’m just learning from him.”
